Sitting under canopied trees, huddled next to a freshly lit bonfire, and listening to old Hindi songs, I celebrated 10 years of friendship with my best friend. I saw her for the first time in a restaurant- she was having dinner with her family, and I could only see her gorgeous hair that extended up till her waist. We had recently shifted to a new city and as a typical mum of aa 14-year-old, my mother asked me to befriend her. "You never know, you both might become good friends." - were her exact words. I smirked and chose to ignore her as usual because every teenager thinks that their mom won't understand the norms of socializing in this age and time. But when I finally met her in a party two weeks later, we ended up spending the entire night talking, giggling and laughing. We spoke about almost everything - our current crushes, previous schools, friends, hobbies, interests and things that we find annoying. Little did I know that this woman will end up becoming a part of my life for more than a decade. We will be completing 11 years of togetherness and sisterhood and to be honest, I wouldn’t want it any other way. In the present times we've reached a point where we have concluded that boys may come and go, at the end of the day it's us against the world. We've seen it all - love, heartbreaks, boyfriends, spontaneous decision to get a similar tattoo etc. After years of staying apart, thousands of fights, ten thousand I miss yous and I love yous - I realized she's my real soul mate. We plan to settle in a country that allows same sex marriage and spend an eternity together - with 4 dogs, 2 cats and a hamster.
